# Get Random Number

**Introduction**

The "Get Random Number" step generates a random number, which can either be an integer or a decimal number, based on the specified configuration. This step is useful for situations where randomness is needed, such as in games, simulations, or decision-making processes.

**Configuration**

* **Integer**: A boolean parameter that determines whether the generated number should be an integer (a whole number without decimals) or a decimal number (a number that can have decimals). This parameter is required and defaults to `Yes`, meaning the number will be an integer unless specified otherwise.
* **Bounds**: Defines the range within which the random number will be generated. The specific configuration of the bounds depends on whether the number is an integer or a decimal number:
  * **Minimum**: The lower limit of the number range.
  * **Maximum**: The upper limit of the number range.
  * When **Integer** is `Yes`, the bounds are specified as integers.
  * When **Integer** is `No`, the bounds are specified as decimal numbers.

**Outputs**

* **Result**: The random number generated within the specified bounds. This output is an integer or a decimal number, depending on the configuration of the **Integer** parameter. This result can be used in subsequent steps of the automation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.flexy.bot/modules/math/steps/get-random-number.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
